After being rejected by Apple, coder Alex Sokirynsky said he’d be an Android convert. The wannabe iPhone developer recently gained widespread attention when Apple rejected his application Podcaster — because it allegedly "duplicates"iTunes. Then, Sokirynsky tried to sell his application through other means, and Apple shut down his operation.

Lex Sokirynsky, developer of Podcaster, a podcast client for the iPhone, is making the switch to Google’s Android smartphone platform. Apple banned Podcaster from being sold in the App Store because “it duplicates the functionality of the Podcast section of iTunes.”

All right, does the world need another application to handle Podcasts on their iPhones? Well, Apple says they don’t, because such an application would duplicate the functions of iTunes, apparently, and thus an attempt to post such a product on the App Store was rejected.

When Apple rejected Podcaster from the App Store for duplicating functionality found in iTunes, developer Al Sokirynsky began offering the app for $10 via the Ad Hoc system. Now, Apple has removed the ability to generate ad hoc licenses for the application, effectively shutting down all sales, official or not.

Two weeks ago, the app "PodCaster" from independent developer "Alex S" was rejected form the App Store for "duplicating iTunes functionality". Then, last week, the developer announced that the App could be purchased on the "Grey Market", taking advantage of the Apple "Ad Hoc" distribution method. Apple has raised more controversy among iPhone users after refusing to 'stock' a podcast utility in the iTunes Apps store. Apple says the feature simply duplicates iTunes itself, but critics say the firm is embarrassed that an outside programmer has produced a better service.

Apple says Podcaster app for iPhone can't be distributed since "it duplicates the functionality of the Podcast section of iTunes." This is a crime that Apple is perpetrating on iPhone users, and it is a lie, since Podcaster does something iTunes doesn't do, and it adds real functionality to the iPhone that lots of people really want.
